Frequently Asked Questions – The Survivorship Collective
What is The Survivorship Collective?
The Survivorship Collective is a nonprofit organization offering safe, state-regulated psilocybin retreats for people living with or beyond a cancer diagnosis. These small-group, science-informed experiences are designed to foster healing, meaning, and connection in the face of illness, mortality, and transformation.
Is this legal?
Yes—in the state of Oregon (and soon in Colorado and New Mexico). Our retreats operate under Oregon’s licensed psilocybin services program. Every session is guided by a certified facilitator and includes comprehensive screening and safety protocols.
Note: Psilocybin is still a Schedule 1 controlled substance under federally law. Our work is strictly state-legal and does not involve the possession, transport, or use of psilocybin outside Oregon.
Is there science behind this?
Yes. Decades of peer-reviewed research from leading institutions like Johns Hopkins, NYU, and UCSF show that psilocybin, when administered in a safe and supportive setting, can dramatically reduce anxiety, depression, and end-of-life distress in people with cancer. Many participants describe lasting increases in emotional well-being, peace, and perspective.
Who are these retreats for?
These retreats are designed exclusively for people who have received a cancer diagnosis—whether newly diagnosed, years in remission, or living with chronic or metastatic disease. You do not need to be in active treatment to participate.
Are these retreats open to caregivers?
Not yet—but we’re getting there. We’re currently designing a dedicated program for caregivers and loved ones. If you're a caregiver, please sign up for our newsletter to be notified when applications open.

How much does it cost?
We operate on a tiered contribution model based on financial capacity.
We are a nonprofit. No one is profiting from your participation. Your fee goes directly toward the cost of delivering care in a legal, safe, and ethical way.
Who is this not right for?
Psilocybin is not appropriate for everyone. You may not be eligible if you have:
A personal or family history of psychosis or schizophrenia
Untreated or unstable bipolar disorder
Certain heart conditions or medications that interact with psilocybin
Active suicidality or mental health crisis
A desire for a recreational or purely psychedelic experience
Every applicant is screened for safety and readiness. We also work closely with you to determine whether now is the right time.
