Ethics

With the recent emergence of facilitator training facilities in the U.S. as well as numerous drug sponsors and other companies developing therapeutic modalities for combination with psychedelics, the psychedelic community faces significant hurdles when handling complex ethical questions. There is a pressing need for a Universal Code of Ethics as well as an independent oversight council that protects patients against abuse and preserves cultures, medicines, and ecosystems. The Survivorship Collective believes that perspectives from multiple stakeholders, including indigenous communities, cancer patients, veterans, medical professionals, philosophers, and spiritual leaders are necessary for the safety of everyone involved. Such a code of ethics would expand on existing frameworks from North Star, MAPS and APPA but with a more rigorous, inclusive and holistic approach to key ethical and spiritual questions that arise when working with psychedelics. Special attention must be paid to conservation, indigenous communities, as well as victims of manipulation and assault.
